About Us

Our family namesake, Uncle Finnegan, always was a stickler for only the freshest fish when eating out, especially at the local chippy. Determined to emulate this tricky combination of quality and convenience, husband and wife team Huw and Sarah Jones took heed from old Uncle Finnegan's wise words and set out to start a chip shop that was worthy of such praise.

Originally self-employed within the Fruit & Veg trade, it was 2001 and Huw was ready to take on his next entrepreneurial challenge. He travelled North to the original home of Fish & Chips to learn what makes a great chippy work, and two years later we won the prestigious Best Fish & Chip Shop in the UK. Now a fully family-run business, Finnegans has expanded and developed into an award-winning multi-faceted business where quality is, and always will be, the number one priority.

We are proud to offer a diverse menu by constantly adapting our product, listening to our customers and providing money-saving deals. Our innovative products such as Batterless Cod and Cod Goujons give our customers the variety, whilst our new Kiddie's Meals offer parents an affordable and healthy option for their little ones. Served in a fun animal box, children can enjoy a tasty meal whilst you can be safe in the knowledge that we include options of protein rich cod goujons in a light batter to 100% real chicken breast goujons.

We sell Vegetarian friendly items such as Pineapple Fritters and even made sure at least one of our curry sauces is veggie friendly. We filter our oil daily and change it frequently to ensure the highest quality end product and only use the finest ingredients to bring you a fantastic meal. Fish is skinless and de-boned and cut every day on premises and we scout out the best in-season spuds to chip fresh every morning.

Finnegans have always been customer and community focused and love to help support local charities, schools and businesses relevant to each shop. Our main charity has always been The Fishermen's Mission in which every penny of money raised goes to the bereaved families of those who have lost their lives at sea in the often-dangerous job of fishing.

Sarah, alongside two of our managers, Tony and Andrew, ran the Cardiff Marathon and combined with other long-term fundraising have secured over £16,000 in the last ten years for the charity. We are proud to support other organisations such as the RNLI, LATCH, Bridgend Food Bank, Marie Curie, Samaritans, Poppy Appeal and Porthcawl Male Voice Choir and always donate towards each areas local school projects and fundraisers. Huw and his son Jack have even taken part in a gruelling 500-mile cycling trip from Porthcawl to Paris in aid of Prostate Cancer and Velindre. Giving back to our loyal customers and welcoming communities is a huge part of our business and always will be.

Thank you!
